Gardeners used to lug heavy bags of peat moss from the store, straining their backs before even touching a trowel. Today, compressed coconut bricks for planting arrive at your doorstep as neat little blocks that expand exponentially on contact with water.
This smart shift saves storage space and reduces environmental strain. Choosing the right block makes all the difference for root development.
Let us break down the top options to help you find the ideal match for your potting bench.
Key Takeaways
- Prioritize super washed coir to ensure excess salts and sodium are removed before planting.
- Calculate your volume needs carefully since expansion rates vary wildly between lightweight and heavy blocks.
- Check the pH balance to guarantee a neutral growing environment that readily accepts nutrients.
- Look for organic certification if you plan on growing vegetables or edible herbs.
- Match the pack size to your project scale, buying bulk bundles only when you have heavy seasonal planting ahead.
